During Carnegie Mellon University's Master's of Entertainment Technology program, team SPIKE, was comprised of 5 multi-disciplinary Grad Students: Laura Pieroni, Emily Sun, Madhuri Koushik, EJ Lee, and Joey Yeh. They pitched, did research, developed and put on the floor of the museum, 5 iPad games that connected to an Educational Social Networking Site. This was all created in 12 weeks by these 5 individuals with constant approval by the museum. On Earth Day, April 22nd 2010, these games were launched on a sneak peek at Nightlife. On the 26th of April these iPads were fully installed in kiosks. Here is a look at what these 5 created.

Youth Radio is a Peabody award-winning nonprofit media production company and learning institution in Oakland, California that prepares diverse young people for the 21st-century digital workplace by offering them hands-on education and employment in journalism, arts, and technology, as well as access to support services like academic advising and mental health care.
As a teacher and head of the Mobile AppLab at YouthRadio I contributed on TurnstyleNews, and Youthradio’s website. At the AppLab, highschool students would come in to learn how to code, design, and deliver a mobile app. During my time at YouthRadio I partnered with Google to create a syllabus for its Android developer program and worked on the book for the Adobe Creative Suite.
Here is a small snapshot of the kinds of hands on work we did:
- Web and App design for Android and iOS
- Photoshop and Adobe Creative skills
- Wireframing apps and ideas
- Prototyping skills in paper and in html
I led each class through the development of 5 apps from ideation to launch on the iTunes and Google Play stores
The program was focused on mentoring inner city youth as well as teaching useful skills. I brought in special guest speakers from around the bay area to discuss their video games, software, and careers.
